If you ever wanted a classic yerba mate experience you can enjoy on any day of the week, Amanda is the brand for you.
She’s like that faithful girlfriend everyone wants.
How?
Because when you drink this mate, you’ll quickly be consumed by its warm and welcoming taste. Personally, whenever I drink Amanda, I get a nice homey feeling. As if this brand was the one designed just for me.
If you’re wondering why, keep reading because I’m about to show you what this yerba mate smells, tastes, and looks like (plus more).
Let’s start!
Nose
After opening up the packaging and taking a nice big whiff, I’m instantly greeted with this lovely woody aroma. Bright notes of cake batter and vanilla also rise into the air. Very sweet and pleasant, I couldn’t wait to finally brew myself a gourd.
Taste
Amanda came as no surprise to me. It’s an Argentinian brand that tastes exactly how it should. Smooth gentle notes of wood and hay dominate the palate with a nice hint of bread. As I move into the halfway point, a nutty taste along with a subtle plant-like flavor comes to the scene. There’s nothing too bitter or harsh about this mate (maybe because it’s not smoked). In fact, a faint sweetness grows stronger as you keep sipping. Although Amanda does lack complexity, its simple and consistent taste gives me something to enjoy and always count on.
I found Amanda to do best in water temperatures of 160ºF (71ºC).
Finish
Amanda has a nice clean finish. After swallowing, light hints wood and cream can be detected which fades away almost instantly. With a finish lasting only a few seconds, your palate is cleansed making it yearn more for another sip of Amanda.
Body/Texture
Amanda is a light-to-medium bodied mate. In the beginning, Amanda can be felt through her slightly chalky texture. But after just a few refills, this quickly transforms into a light watery infusion. And I kind of like it. Combined with its taste and strength, everything works well together.
Cut
Amanda features a classic Argentine cut. In its package is a nice balance of all three elements. Coarsely-cut olive green leaves take up most of the bag with some finely-chopped ones. Short and long white stems of varying thickness is abundant. And a decent amount of dust floats from the bag when shook.
Thanks to Amanda’s large leaves and stems, preparation is easy. Any style of bombilla will work. Just be careful with the mountain of mate as it can easily slide down.
Cycle
Amanda has a medium-to-long cycle. Its flavor stays strong throughout most of the mate. As you keep refilling and refilling, you will notice Amanda to gradually lose its taste. But even when you’re near the end, Amanda stays strong and still provides some flavor for your palate. With a medium-sized gourd, I’m able to drink about 3/4 of a liter.
Effect
Like with most yerba mates, Amanda is ready to give you the boost you need.
Waking up in the morning, and preparing a gourd of this always gets me ready for what the day has in store for me. A very strong blast of energy from the start gets me on my feet. Not too much, though. I don’t get jumpy. But my tiredness and groggy feeling always disappears. I feel light on my feet and ready to move. Along with a full body of energy, you can also expect better focus and a better mood.
It’s almost impossible to feel bad with this in your system. Everything is painted in a calm, euphoric spirit.
Amanda is a great mate for being productive.
Enjoy it in the morning or early afternoon. It will be too stimulating during the evening.
Amanda Yerba Mate Review
There’s nothing bad I have to say about Amanda. But there’s nothing too special about it either.
This mate comes and delivers. It’s the one you reach for when you’re not sure what to drink that day. Not because Amanda is your backup, but because she’s highly dependable when it comes to taste and effect.
The only notable thing that pops out about this brand is its smoothness and long-lasting taste.
For beginners, I wouldn’t recommend Amanda. She can be a bit too strong. But for the more experienced, I’m sure you’ll love this one.

Hello
I am Rosemarie, I live in North Carolina and I consume yerba mate ,,
I have bought yerba mate amanda composed of aromatic herbs supposed mint, boldo, cedron and others, but it has no flavor to them, and the grass is more dust than yerba with stick, a real shame, I lost my $ 6.00 dollars
Hello, thank you for your review.I am completely new to Yerba mate but want to start due to the health benefits so I ordered Amanda regular and Amanda orange, plus katuava kurupi brand.
The katuava is delicious but the orange Amanda tastes musty and a bit like seaweed, is this normal or could the product have become moldy or something like that, do you think? The Amanda regular doesn’t have this same mustiness.
Thank you for your thoughts.
Hey!
I’ve never tried the Amanda Orange so I can’t say much, but that doesn’t seem right. Based on the reviews I’ve read, they don’t report the same thing. They say it just tastes like orange.
I’d suggest smelling the bag. If it smells funky, it could be bad. Whether mold or stale due to improper storage. I’d personally order another bag just to be safe and compare.
Cheers,
Darren
Hello! just thought I’d ask if it’s certain that this yerba mate is unsmoked, because I see in some places it says it’s smoked and others not. really good website. Have a good one!
Have you tried the Yerba mate orgánica – AMANDA? I am a new drinker and it is my first bag. I am enjoying it so far however I am curious if it is the same or very similar to the non organic version. I have also read that AMANDA is a great mate for tereré, do you agree?
