La Merced De Campo Yerba Mate is the brand I’ve been searching for for a long, long time.

When I think of the perfect yerba mate – one that features a classic earthy and grassy flavor – this is what I imagined.

La Merced De Campo does it extremely well.

It bothers me that I wasn’t put onto this mate earlier. Because if I was, I would’ve been drinking it like a mad man.

Thankfully, I finally decided to give it a go.

Nose

Right out of its shiny aluminum bag, La Merced De Campo comes to the scene with a noticeable lime note. Sharp and bright. Not something you usually find but very pleasant. When brewing in the gourd, it then produces a lovely baked bread note you can almost eat.

Taste

With each sip, you’ll experience something so familiar, but so much better than you remember – the classic traditional yerba mate taste. La Merced De Campo is rich with grassy and earthy flavors. And is coupled with a pleasant woodsiness and underlying honey note (reminiscent of Playadito). As you get through the second half of the mate, hints of florals come to the scene for a full blend of flavor.

Not too weak yet not too strong, La Merced De Campo strikes the perfect balance. It’s hard to ignore how well all the notes sit on the tongue.

Finish

After swallowing, La Merced De Campo doesn’t give you much to work with. Just a slight sweetness that disappears within seconds, leaving you begging for more to experience everything it has to offer.

Body/Texture

As expected, this yerba has a light-to-medium body. Rich but not domineering, La Merced De Campo has no harshness to it. It’s smooth, rounded, and enjoyable for beginners and longtime materos.

Cut

La Merced De Campo features an Argentine cut. Leaves are uniformly medium-cut. Most are dark green, while some are toasted to a brown and black color. Thick white palos are sprinkled around with some toasted brown and black ones as well. Low polvo content makes preparing the mountain of mate more difficult as it can easily slide, so be careful.

Effect

La Merced De Campo is well-rounded in effect. This brand is classy in this area as well. Typical effects of energy, calmness, and focus with no crash can be experienced.

After drinking half of my bag already, I’ve found it to be a great mate to drink solely for relaxation. Personally, I don’t like to use it for work or doing anything productive. Although it can definitely help you get things done, I like to prepare myself La Merced De Campo when I’m winding down.

Whether it’s reading, sitting outdoors, or just enjoying myself a delicious drink, the flavors of La Merced De Campo keep me good company.

La Merced De Campo is soft, pleasant, and a classic mate. This is a brand I’ll be purchasing over and over again. It’s difficult to put it into words, but this mate gives me a sense of home, solitude, and connection.
