CBSe Energia Guarana Review (How Does It Taste?)

For a delicious and unique tasting mate, CBSe Energia Guarana still seems to lay under the radar as I can’t find any reviews of it at the moment. But boy is this a mate to be talked about.

cbse

Now I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I’m not a big fan of flavored/blended yerba mate. I like it plain and natural. Nothing added.

I’ve had a few flavored/blended bags before this one, but only one of them impressed me.

After trying CBSe Energia though, that’s changed to two.

I’ve been drinking a bag of this for the past few weeks and in this review, you’re going to discover what it smells and tastes like, plus much more.

Let’s start!

Nose

Once I opened up the colorful packaging this mate comes in, strong notes of fresh raspberries fly into the air. I also get a light hint of mint in the background. The natural yerba mate aroma is almost completely masked. Very sweet and pleasant, I can almost eat it.

Taste

When it comes to flavored mates, I’m usually skeptical about how it tastes. It also doesn’t help not knowing what guarana tastes like but I was pleasantly surprised with this one.

cbse

The guarana adds an excellent fruitiness to the mate without being overbearing. The sweetness is tasty and light, allowing the natural earthy, grassiness of the yerba mate to still shine. CBSe Energia reminds me of raspberry tea bags I used to drink years ago. Very mild, easy-going, and pleasant. I’m sure beginners transitioning from tea bags will fall in love with this one, along with experienced drinkers who are looking for a change of pace. No harshness, sharpness, or smokiness is found in this mate.

I found this brand to do great at almost any temperature. From 130-170ºF (54-77ºC), the flavor is somehow always gentle on the palate.

Finish

CBSe Energia leaves a quick light and refreshing finish behind with brief notes of the guarana’s fruitiness as well as some grass and hay. The finish lasts only a few seconds before your palate is completely renewed. Unlike most yerba mate brands, there’s no astringency to this which I love. It’s exceptionally clean and smooth.

Body/Texture

CBSe Energia is a light-to-medium bodied mate. Only the first two to three refills have some body to it. But afterward, it instantly becomes watery with virtually no texture to it at all. The mate is light, airy, and weightless. It’s like drinking flavored water.

Cut

cbse

CBSe Energia features an Argentine cut with Paraguayan characteristics. There are broad-cut leaves along with equal amounts of pulverized leaves. Stems are milled very finely as well, with some stems still being thick and full size. Dust content is above average for an Argentinian brand and helps keep the mountain of mate glued together when preparing.

Regarding the guarana, I only know that the mate is flavored with it. They didn’t add actual guarana because I don’t see it anywhere in the bag. But I don’t know if they used guarana extract either.

Cycle

Unfortunately, CBSe Energia has a medium cycle. Its strength dies down pretty quickly, but it maintains some good flavor until the end, which is about 3/4 of a liter.

Effect

CBSe Energia lives up to its name.

Compared to other regular brands though, it’s pretty similar. Whatever stimulating effects I’ve experienced with this one, I’ve experienced with the next one. The difference, however, is CBSe Energia is a flavored mate. Flavored mates don’t usually pack much of a punch. This is also a mild mate. Mild mates tend to be light on the stimulation as well. With that said, in theory, this brand should be weak in effect. But it’s not.

Every time I drink this, I experience a long-lasting intense focus that I can physically feel in my head as if all the chemicals are interacting directly with my brain. I also feel calmer and more relaxed at the same time. An interesting thing I noticed too is that I never get jittery/anxious or have stomach problems with this mate. With others though? It’s bound to happen for me.

I would only recommend drinking this in the morning.
