In this yerba mate kit, you'll find one of our most loved CRIOLLO Mate Gourd. Simple and plain, you get to show off the natural beauty of your calabash along with its fitted leather base to support it. Some are thick, some are thin, some are wide, some are slim, but we can guarantee each one to be one-of-a-kind - and pairs perfectly with our LORO Spoon Bombilla.
Capacity: small to medium
- Includes a natural calabash with a leather base, stainless steel spoon bombilla, and 500g bag of yerba
- Gourd may feature a flared opening to make forming mountains easier
- Stainless steel bombilla for molding the mountain and smooth filtration
For those who want to experience the tradition of mate in its simplest form, this is the kit for you.
It’s recommended you cure your gourd before use. (The gourd and base varies from the pictures shown as the gourds are natural and the base is handmade)

FAQs
FAQs
Can I Pick Out A Specific Gourd?
Unfortunately, no. Calabashes are 100% natural and each one is unique in shape, size, and capacity. In addition, the virola (metal rim) are all handmade and each mate comes with a different design.
The best we can do is give a range of a gourd's dimensions and capacity. If you prefer a size, you may always reach out with your request and we'll do our best to accommodate, but can't guarantee it.
How To Cure Mate Gourds
Before using, it's best to cure your mate to remove excess debris and reduce bitter tannins.
- Fill with hot water (170°F / 77 °C) and steep for 20 minutes.
- Pat dry with a paper towel.
- Dry gourd on its side in a well-ventilated spot (a fan works best).
How To Clean Them
Calabash gourds should be cleaned immediately after use with only warm water. Rinse out all the yerba and pat dry. Do not use soap or other cleaning products as this can be absorbed and affect the taste.
How To Prevent Mold
Mold is caused by how the mate dries after being used (not an issue with the gourd itself). For best prevention, dry your gourd in a well-ventilated room (by a fan for best results). Do not mistake natural green staining from the yerba for mold. Mold will appear as fuzzy white/green spots and produce an off smell.
