A crowd-pleasing imperial mate gourd! This calabash is dressed in smooth buttery leather (brown or black), and sealed with an alpaca metal strap and stainless steel rim. These mates keep it simple and classy at the same time.

It’s recommended you cure your gourd before use. (The size and shape of each gourd, and rim design varies from the pictures shown as no two gourds are the same – some are larger, some are smaller. Being handmade, some light marks and blemishes may also appear on the mate)

Dimensions (approx.): 4 x 5in.

Mate Gourds
Before your first use, it's best to cure your mate gourd (if made of calabash or wood) to remove debris and reduce bitter tannins.

  • Fill with hot water (170°F / 77 °C) and steep for 20 minutes.
  • Pat dry with a paper towel.
  • Dry gourd on its side in a well-ventilated spot (a fan works best).

Bombillas
New bombillas should be cleaned to remove any potential manufacturing residue.

  • Boil in water with 1 tbsp baking soda for 10–15 minutes.
  • Rinse thoroughly and pat dry.

Yerba Mate
Keep yerba mate in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. For green yerba, store in the fridge/freezer to preserve freshness and prevent degradation. An airtight container works best.

Beautiful handcrafted calabash! You can really feel the quality — it’s sturdy, comfortable to hold, and has that authentic traditional vibe. There’s a tiny bit of silicone visible in a couple of spots, but that’s pretty normal for handmade pieces. The shape is deep with a slightly narrow neck — personally, I prefer a wider top since it’s easier to work with the yerba, but that’s just my taste.
Overall, I love it — a great addition to my mate collection and definitely a reason to get another one soon! 🧉🫶🏻

Thank you for the feedback Adam! All valid points and are something we are avidly looking to work on with our suppliers. Of course, there's always some room for human error with these pieces, but we will always try to provide the best quality/experience. We're happy you are still enjoying the gourd though!
