Important note: due to the nature of this item, slight variations in cut and color are normal from batch to batch. Compared to the previous one, this is slightly less green and coarser.
Grown in the rich soils of Brazil, La Palma offers a fresh, yet traditional drinking experience like never before. This yerba is unsmoked and non-aged with a fine Uruguayan cut (P.U.1) to help you build the perfect mountain of mate. Full-bodied and ultra smooth, imagine a marriage between Brazilian chimarrao and green tea. The flavor profile presents itself with rich notes of earth, florals, dark chocolate, and fresh grass.
Dimensions: 9 x 12 in.

FAQs
FAQs
How Do You Prepare Yerba Mate?
Yerba mate is traditionally prepared in a gourd with a bombilla, but can also be prepared just like tea or coffee. Whether that be a french press, teapot, strainer, coffee maker, etc. Anything that allows you to steep the leaves and strain it, is a potential way to prepare it!
What Does Yerba Mate Taste Like?
Similar to tea and coffee, yerba mate in general can taste earthy, bitter, and smoky. However, the flavor profile can vary greatly from brand to brand.
How Long Does A Bag Of Yerba Last?
The average-sized gourd will use about 30-50g of yerba when filled halfway to two-thirds. So for a 500g/1.1lb bag, that'll give you 10-17 sessions or 1.5-2 weeks.
Best Way To Store Yerba Mate
All yerbas are best stored in an air-tight container, in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
If the yerba is not aged and green (like La Palma), it is best stored in the fridge or freezer to retain its freshness and color. However, aged yerbas can also be safely stored in its original packaging.
Does Yerba Mate Expire?
All yerbas are given a 2-year expiration from the date it was produced, and will be labeled on each bag.
Why Can't I Make A Mountain Of Mate?
A picture-perfect mountain of mate can only be made with powdery, finer-cut yerbas, such as those from Uruguay and Brazil. If the leaves are too large (Argentine yerbas), it cannot "stick" together. However, with coarser cuts, a perfect mountain is not necessary anyway and can be ignored.

The taste was great, I'm not really new to mate but I'm still intermediate. But the taste was smooth, clean, and had notes of cream, pistachio, and a grassy taste. It evens out after a refill or two and more subtle notes become more testable. I've only had a few kinds of mate and I believe this is the best one yet, I also appreciate how it's not aged and fresh instead of an aged mate like Canarias. I also believe that it was very good being cold and hot. All in all, I think that this mate is easily a 10/10 and will become my new usual.
Thank you for the glowing review, Reid! We glad to hear how much you enjoyed La Palma - both hot and cold!
good taste
I moved on from playadito to la Palma and I don’t think I could ever go back!
